Collection of Books and Scholarly Journals Pertaining to Mayan Culture.
The library of Jonathan Ladd, a curator of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography John Ladd, who died in the late 1960’s left an extensive collection of literary materials relating to Mayan culture and history; hardcover texts (monographs and studies), many individual soft-bound scholarly periodicals, as well as bound hard-cover academic journals representing long periods of time (the greater part from the 1950’s and 1960’s) published by such institutions as the Smithsonian Institution, the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and the Middle American Research Institute. There are also a number of sets which are mostly scholarly reference works. The books are full of illustrations, maps, photos, and drawings.

Twelve volumes, contemporary red morocco, elaborately gilt decorated spines and boards, marbled endpapers, to edges gilt, uncut and mostly unopened. One of the first definitive editions of Lincoln's works, illustrated with 57 photogravures and facsimiles, including a frontispiece portrait in each volume. One volume (IX) has some wear on the spine, and is rougher looking than the others when closely inspected. All boards are attached.
